I have a 240 gallon acrylic tank I am heating the tank with two 500 watt Aquatop Titanium heaters they are getting the job done so I dont have a issue with that but.... I believe they are running up my electric bill are there heaters that can get the job done & are more energy friendly . Any suggestions appreciated .

that's not strictly true. Heat pumps (for water heating) and air inverters (air conditioner / heaters) have COP up to 15 X nowadays. This means 1 kilowatt of electricity will produce 15 kWatt of heat /cooling. Perfectly suitable for a fish room, household hot water system, swim pool or reasonable size monster tank.

The initial outlay can be expensive.

You are correct. That is why I specifically said electric resistance heaters. A heat pump can and usually will put more watts of heat into what ever they are heating than they consume. But all electric resistance heaters have the same efficiency which is pretty much 100%.

I love the adds for the electric fireplaces on TV... "The most efficient heater you can buy". Yeah, because electric resistant heaters are all the same... pretty much 100% efficient.

And yes, I specifically worded it "pretty much 100% efficient".
