I'm coming close to the end of my tank build and I need to figure out how I'm going to heat this thing. I don't want 3 or 4 heaters stuck to the wall inside the tank. I don't want to have to go to 220v. I don't want to spend a ton of money. I will be building a sump so most likely I will be heating from the sump. DIY is not an issue for me but I need ideas. Anyone out there that has done something creative please post some pics or explain to me their ideas. My online search has turned up pretty fruitless so I need to pick your collective brain.

Just run the heaters in the sump so they aren't visible in the tanks. Just 1 x 300W keeps up with my 180g easy. I only have a 2nd as a back up which is set at a lower temp should the 1st fail or have a hard time. This is outside as well.

Thing is there is noe fun in spending 50.00 a piece on 2 or three heaters if I can build something for less.

That's why we have ebay.com

Granted it may not be as much fun but I don't see how you will do it cheaper and as reliable as basic everyday aquarium heaters for a tank of that size.

I took a good look at the hardware stores today and I've come to the conclusion that it will be more cost effective just to pick up a couple of 300w heaters and place them in the sump.
