So I am thinking of maybe setting up a fish room in my basement.

The temperature in the basement is 50-60 degrees usually, and it is not a finished basement.

I want to build the room with cinder block and 2x4 and I hope on breeding fish as well as possibly selling some rarer fish and culturing various live foods.

So what I want to know is, what would be the best way to heat this room? I want to aim for 80 degrees.

insulate everything and get something that will keep the temp stable and your gnna have to make sure that theres no cracks anywhere to upstairs and somehow isolate the basement doors so the temp doesnt escape

Just wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone has personal experience with heating the fish room instead of individual tanks.

A lot depends on your central heating system. If you have a hot water boiler you can add a zone for just your fish room. This would be the most efficient use of energy. If you have a forced air system, you will want to add some ductwork to the room but will have to supplement it with a thermostatically controlled heater. A piece of electric baseboard with a seperate thermostat would be the easiest way.

No matter what you go with the room will need to be well insulated and sealed. I run a humidifier in my fish room, it obviously keeps my humidity in check but also creates a fair amount of heat.

You can also run a heat exchanger setup if your tanks are on a common system. I am running a few systems and they are very efficient.
