i'm in the process of buying everything i need for my new 600g tank i'm getting in febuary..i got all my filtration down just idk what to do for heating it..i'm not running a sump..but i'm going to be running 3 fx5's maybe a pond filter..but my main problem is the heating i'm looking to keep it at 82 degrees..any info will help and where i can also get a heater to keep it warm..thanks in advance B-Mike

You will need 1200-1500 Watts of heating power. I have 900 right now and it works but not ideal. I am using 3 300 Watt jagers I plan to add another one to call it good. One of mine came as a dud constantly on. So working to get another a sale is on right now at doctor Foster smith online website

What's the coldest that the air temperature in the room will get? If it won't get much below 70F, then I think you should be fine with anywhere between 1,000 and 1,500 watts.

I would go with a Ranco Controller with a 1,000W titanium rod and a 500W rod.

Check out Jehmco.com.

Temperature controller: Model# ETCI-1R
Titanium Heater: Model # TSH-1000
Titanium Heater: Model #TSH-500

Edit: Chaidan beat me to it.

I bought a external pump for my 200gal, it hooks to my sump under my tank inside the stand, it keeps my tank at 82, and my tank chills in my basement where its average 65,

i have a sump which houses 2 jehmco 1000 watt heaters on a controller works great

how long have you use those heaters ? im trying to decide to use 1000watt Ti jehmco heater with controller or 3 300watts jager also with controller...
what are some pros and cons?

I had the same question a few months ago. I decided to go with (6) 300 Watt Eheim Jagers on a Controller.

Pros:
1. I can set the Jagers to shut off at 85F so that if the controller ever fails in the "on" position, the Jagers internal controller will shut the heaters down once the tank hits 85F.
2. If one heater fails, the others should still be able to keep up until you figure that out.
3. Spreading the wattage across the surface area of 3 heaters means that you have a less concentrated heat source. In other words, a 1,000W heat stick will get REALLY hot compared to (3) 300 watt Eheims and they are therefore a little more likely to fail than the Jagers.

Cons:
1. A bit of a rats nest of wires and you may need to plug the heaters into a power strip, then power strip into the controller.
2. If you are placing them in your display, they can be an eyesore (that's why I recommended the titanium rod(s) in this case...he's not running a sump so he can't easily hide the heaters in a sump). A single 1,000W Titanium stick will be much easier to hide than (3) 300W Eheims.

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong either way. If you have the room in your sump and you don't mind the extra plugs/wires, I think the ability to set a limit on the Jagers is enough of a benefit to go that route, especially since the cost is about the same.
