It will be a glass 300gal, with a water temp of 80F and a house temp of no lower than 74F. What would be the lowest wattage of heating required? I'm figuring one 300W heater won't cut it, would two 300's work?

Also, it gets fairly warm in the summer here. What's a good and decently priced controller to switch on a fan when the tank gets a little warm and off when it's not so the fan and heater(s) don't work against eachother?

on my 265 I dont use a heater in the summer, and I get away with a 300w heater in the sump for the winters. It would be better to use 2 heaters incase of a failure. I feel that it is better to use 2 smaller ones incase one sticks on.

In the summer I just run a fan on the tank 24x7 and it works out just fine. the water is pretty constant at 80 degrees in mid 90 degree weather it might go to 82.

Yea, a small fan works great on my 75 and 55, but often to well, and the heater has to kick on. I'm not keen on burning up 600 watts of power when it's not needed, I figure there has to be some sort of controller for it.

So about underwatting, is 600 watts underwatting the heating by a little?

Thanks for the advice.

With the heaters in the sump, 300 at a time (600 total) would be plenty IMO.
Keep in mind that you're going to be cooling a lot more water with the fan, so it shouldnt drop it too much. If you want to find a thermostatic controller, I would check www.mcmaster.com.
They usually have everything I ever need.

Thanks Rallysman, What's a quality heater that's around in the states? I'm thinking someone mentioned Jager being one of the best, is this right?

P.S. Black aro here I come! :headbang2

I think I found a winner with this one, shame I can't find a decent avitar to match. My buddy made this avitar, but I had to pass.
