After being unhappy with the restricted size of aquarium I can fit within my living room the other half has agreed to me converting the garage into a fish room. This of course has its own complications. The garage is 21ft x 12ft x 7ft. I am now considering how to heat it and wondered what the mfk masses use for this. I will be keeping north American cichlids with a few oddballs and with this I intend on using a 12ft x 3ft x 3ft raised pond as a grow out for the fry. I would be grateful for any advice and recommendations. The small price to pay for this is that she will be keeping her "small furries" on the other side of the room.

First job is to insulate that thing well. Second, especially if you've got an open pond situation you'll want ventilation so your garage and anything attached to it (house) doesn't become a mold factory.

I'm thinking so kind of an air exchanger might do both depending on the the temp and humidity of where you live.

the garage isn't connected to my house its roughly 15ft away, I do have a load of kingspan left over from my previous fish room. I plan to use as much of it as I can and see where I am then. Next will be to board the whole inside of the garage in plywood. which will be painted with undercoat and then black to finish them. Does anyone have much experience with tubular heaters?

If serious I would spray foam and drywall the inside.
As for heater, that dependent on your location, is gas or electric cheaper. what do you have access to in there? if you live somewhere it get's hot you may also need cooling in the summer.
