Heating for 220 Gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think there is a minimum or even optimum size when you are talking about heaters. It has more to do with ambient air temp and desired tank temp. For example I have a 240 gallon tank in my living room. The room temp is 68-72f and the tank temp is 78f. This is achieved with a single 250 watt Ebo Jager.

I have a single 300W Ebo Jager on my 225g in the garage and no problem heating above 81F. CA-Delta is right, it's the ambient temp that changes things.

Well the Jager's are beast tho... even my fluval does real good like that some of it might depend on what type of heater it is as well because some of the cheap ones you would probably need 3x300 watts as opposed to two good 200 watt jagers

True dat. Jager advertises the 300W for 159-264 gallons.

You guys are right. I had a 180 and i only had one 300w running and it was plenty. I think there may be something wrong with my termostat or possibly even the heater.

I'll try to switch out both. I don't want to use 2 300watts. Its just more clutter in the tank.

This is very true. I have a 300 gallon kept in same temp range and use a single 300w Jager. In the garage I have another tank 270 that has wide temp range 53-96 and requires 2 x 300w jagers to keep it at it's required temp.

If it is upstairs 1 300watt might work since I am assuming that the house is warm. If it is in the basement then you will need 3 300watt heaters and you can go 4.
