My wife and I just bought our first house together and while I love the bigger/nicer house I no longer have a fishroom. So what ide like to try to do is keep my 75g with one oscar outside in the screened in porch. I live in Alabama where power is cheap (relatively) but the winters are still much to cold for an oscar.

I have a couple months to figure something out but was hoping you guys could help. Currently Im thinking of putting insulation boards on all sides except the front. And running about 1000 watts of heater with an inkbird controller to see if i could maintain 75-78 degrees. Some days it gets down into the low 20's in the middle of winter so it may not be enough.

I did some napkin math for a 1000w heater running 24/7 for 6 months and itde be just under $500 and our winters are not that long so im using that as my worst case scenario.

Other ideas that may be unrealistic would be a small tankless waterheater below the tank or somehow utilize a hottub heater and a sump or maybe even plumb into the house water heater.

Just brainstorming at this point so any input is appreciated. If at anytime this plan fails and temps drop to low I plan on having a backup stock tank in the garage for the first winter which I can heat with the hvac system if I have to. Thanks guys.

It seems feasible to me. Not quite 30 years ago I was in Florida for a few years, had a 75 on a screened-in porch one year (long story) and that winter there was a cold snap, mid to upper 20s (forget exact temperature) at night for a week, and two 300 watt heaters kept the tank in the low 80s where they were set (forget what brand of heater). Of course that was short term, but I was surprised at how well it worked.
