well i got my starter roach colony in and well im having a small issue.

i went to walmart and i bought a rubbermaid tub. problem is the stupid heating pa i bought is not keeping the temp up as high as i need. even with it being in my little herp room. which stays at a constant 75* or so.

what kind of heat pad do you guys use? i bought mine at the local petco and let me just say it was the biggest waste of $20 i have ever spent. and all of the other heat pads i can find at walmart have the stupid auto-shut off feature, which is stupid IMHO.

so for now i have a dome fixture clamped to one of my other cages and it is hanging over the tub an my temps are up. but i would like to go to just under tank heat. would i be better off using just a regular 10 gallon tank?

I have 2 separate 10 gallons with UTH's under them for my dubia roaches. The hottest area in the tank gets 90-95F.

my zoo med uthp are at 95 in rubbermaids you might have gotten a deffective one.

i just keep mine on top of one of my 8x4s where the heat lamps are and it keeps the roaches at around 90F. Seemed like a good idea then buying a heat pad and its been working

Place some polystyrene UNDER the heatmat and then put the rubbermaid ON the heatmat.

For some reason most people seem to forget that heatmats radiate heat from BOTH sides, by placing polystyrene under the heatmat the temperature should rise by at least 5F (usually by 10F+ )

There are a lot more roaches than in the pic but they always seem to teleport when the camera comes out
