hey all.. i am looking to put a large concrete statue inside my 300 gallon tank...1 will the statue affect the fish at all..and 2 would it be safe to put a piece of stainless surgical steel in the tank to help support the weight of the statue thanx to all

it should'nt affect water chemistry ...just make sure it is washed off well prior to putting it into the tank.........as for weight distribution,,,,,,,,use egg crate, cut to size:D

wont it leach lime into the water affecting the ph like in the diy backgrounds ?

I personally would want to seal the statue with something like sweetwater just to make sure that it WON'T leach anything out into the water, or have the water errode the statue.

Would you like some ketchup with this?...:D

Look at the size of the koi ponds... the ratio of water to fish to to statue size (and most are not fully immersed in koi ponds) is way different than an aquarium.

Concrete or cement ponds are normally sealed now (they used to put a fine layer of cement as the last coat (kinda like stucco) to give the inside a smooth surface) then age the concrete for 6 months.

I'll go with the eggcrate tho.

And with dr_sudz on the sealer.

Bon Appetite' :D

also stainless steel is OK

Why not fill a bucket with water, test the ph then put the statue in for a couple of days and test the ph again. Then you will know for sure. And an egg crate or a section of u/g filter will work to support the weight. I once put a 100 pound rock in my 77 gal with no problems.

cheers

thanx ya i had the statue in the rubbermaid bin 4 three days no change to water yet but who knows on it in like 6 months....just dont wanna pioson my big arows
