im thinking of getting rid of some of my fish and going with a hedgehog. what some personal experiences with keeping hedgehogs and how are they as pets? would they be okay in an aquarium?

I kept mine in an aquarium, he was given to me from my moms work colleague and he was pretty old when I got him.

he had received very minimal handling and was absolutely unhandlable. He would make a hissing noise and lunge towards you with his spikes, I got him out every day, hand fed him and before he died he was a little bit better but he still was not a cuddly petable animal. He would run around and explore but the second I got near him or moved he would curl up, shake and hiss and lunge at me.

If you get them very small and handle them a lot when they are young they can make wonderful pets, but mine was the other way around. I still enjoyed having the little guy even if it wasn't for too long.

The memories I have from hedgies are that they would get startled easy if they had never been handled. But if they were handled they would be really sweet... The ones that weren't would jerk and hit you with their spines... I would always jerk back even though it didn't hurt, you'd just expect it to.

They has one in the flea market where I went to school. No one bought it for years. It was defently cool. We would pick it up and it was fine.

I know mine wasn't your typical hedgie, but its good to know about the bad aswell as the good.
