I do understand that footprint is most impt for a ray tank. But what about height? Is one foot height enough to make them feel comfortable? Do rays reside in very deep water in the wild or shallow water/sand closer to coast?
My pair of Motoros are always swimming up the side of the tank. It would be a shame to have a shallower tank. I never agreed with that saying that you should sacrifice height for width. Ideally, you would have both.
Yeah, the footprint of the tank is the most important part, and a 1' tall tank would work fine.
They do seem to like swimming up the glass, but depending on what kind of ray you get even a 2' high tank won't be enough for a ray to swim up the glass when it reaches full size. So a 1' foot would be fine.
Thanks guys for the replies! Just a question which came to my mind cos i've seen some indoor ponds/tanks featured around here which are 1 foot high and made specially for rays. So just wondering about the general opinion. Of cos if possible, we should always provide maximum capacity.
They swim up the sides because they don't have enough room to swim 'around' on the bottom.
I have an 8x4' stingray pool that is only about 8-9" deep when holding water, and the rays never swim up the sides.. Maybe because they have more than enough room to swim at the bottom?
