as far as the required thickness of glass is concerned....what matters the most ???? height of the tank?or depth?

orrr ....what puts more pressure on tank ? height or depth??

orrr....what is safe... 8'*3'*2.5'high
or 8'*2.5'*3'high

Height

The height puts pressure on the seam at the bottom where the front/back joins the base. Length does also play a part though, just not as much as height. I've got a 36x18x18" with 6mm glass that is fine, but I'd be reluctant to build a 120x18x18" out of 6mm...

So the 2.5' tall tank is certainly "safer" than the 3' tall if the same glass is used.

highly recommend not going over 24-27" in height unless you have unusually long monkey arms.
measure the distance from you arm pit to your finger tip. This is the maximum depth you want to go unless you like hanging head first into your tank every time you need to clean it.

height is always what creates pressure. You could have 1 mile of water 1' deep and it would still only put the same amount of pressure as 2' of water 1' deep along a piece of glass.

Height adds more pressure!!

So the tank with more depth is more safe if the same glass was used, When thicker glass is used theres no issue going taller just more $$!

I agree with rbarn also, I have tanks 3ft-2.5 - 2.10 tall and they are a pain to clean, I have long arms also but struggle mainly because most are on a tier so I have to stand on the same stand as the tank in order to even have a chance or they are very wide also but it still adds effort and you always have to do it in a singlet else you dont mind having wet shoulders.
