HELLLPPPP , new tank was a Lemon.....

so to make a long story short i bought a tank 125G. that had the seals on the side go bad and after takin the gravle out i found a siliconed crack across the bottom!
so since im takin the panels out to resilicone it back together i may as well make it bigger ... so i'm going with a 5'x2'x2' tank now my questin is ......
DO I NEED THE PLASTIC TRIM AROUND THE TOP AND BOTTOM ?
i'm goin to silicone a top middle piece between the front and back and 2x side pieces ontop of the tank on the sides..... will that work for the top?
and if i just leave the bottom without a trim will it burst?

You need to have some sort of bracing around the top and bottom. That's what is keeping it together. If it had bracing/trim to begin with it'll need it again.
