So I've been hanging around the site for months now, and I figured now would be a good time to say hey! Have been an enthusiast for years, and am privileged to be a part of this awesome, informative forum! Currently have a 55 gal with hap/peacock cichlid mix, but just purchased my first (semi) monster! 150 gal off CL...:grinno: I'm in the process of cleaning the algae off with vinegar, but was worried about the problem areas directly on the silicone seams... any suggestions? Thanx!

No one? I'd think that a forum as informative as this would have some good advice for me! help me out MFK'ers!!

Hello and welcome,

If green stain on silicone sealant won't come off, maybe it is not algae, maybe stain from previous use of Malachite Green. If from Malachite Green, color will not come out, but will not leach into tank either, so no effect on water or fish, just maybe not look very nice.

Kuji out.

Thanks Kuji.. I am still pretty sure it's algae, just don't wanna scrub too hard directly on the sealant. wouldn't wanna have to reseal this thing. Is there a better method or am I just wussing out? haha

Uhh,I wouldn't use any bleach...ever.It could absorb into the silicone and later leach back into the water, nope, not worth the risk.

yeah I didn't think bleach was a good idea.. I guess it's an eye sore I may just have to live with..

welcome to mfk........nice to meet you-- check in our DIY forum.. they may have a solution to your problem that is safe...
