Hello MFK'ers, I've been browsing this website for a number of years and finally decided to join!
I'm from Tasmania, Australia, I've been keeping fish for about 5 years now, started with goldies, then moved to oscars, but unfortunately about a month ago disaster struck, one of my cats knocked out the powerboard that had my heater and one of my filters, long story short, it gets quite cold here over night and all that survived the accident was my 4-5 inch gold spot pleco. so I decided to get rid of my old tank (it was an all in one bow-front tank) and start again with something better, after a few days of searching gumtree (craiglist equivalent) I found a nice 122x36x45cm (4x1x1.5) tank cheap, it ends up being about 200L or 50G, built a stand and bought a nice LED light fixture filled it up and cycled it.
Filtration:
2x Eheim 2217 with enough Purigen to filter a 250G
Lighting:
Up Aqua Z-series LED light 90cm (3ft)
My stocking list so far is:
1x 4-5inch Gold spot pleco
1x 1-2inch Gold Saum
I'm currently on the look out for a juvenile Festae
my dream tank would have a Male Gold Saum and a Female Festae, with some dithers and a pleco. I realize that I can't keep these fish in this tank for life, but it will do for a grow out and in a few months I'll be looking to buy a 6x2x2 or probably larger.
I feed NLS three times a day with the occasional feeding replaced with blood worms or spirulina flakes and some vege wafers for the pleco every night with the occasional slice of zucchini.
The tank is semi planted, it has 3 java ferns in it at the moment, but ill be getting some amazon swords and maybe a few other plants. personally, I think that every fish tank should have live plants, IMO it looks better and is better for the fish and it helps with filtration.
If you would like to see a pic or two of my tank, I'm more than willing to oblige
anyway, enough about me, looking forward to getting to know you all.
