First off I would like to thank Jay Luto for turning me on to this site! I noticed his Aquatic Photography Forum shirt he had on at our Aquarium Society meeting last week. I emailed him the next day and he sent me the link. I am new to Photography and old to Tropical fish. I live in Langhorne, PA. I have been breeding & raising tropical fish for over 35 years. I have a 12 x 16 fishroom with over 30 tanks and growing. Last June I purchased a D70 after months of research to take with me on my collecting trip to Peru and also for photographing my fish. I purchased it along with the NIKKOR 18-70mm and a Tamron 75-300mm lenses. For Christmas my wife bought me a SB-800 flash, which improved my pics. I thought I took some excellent pics until looking at the pics on this forum and I really need improvement. After listening to Jay speak about macro lenses to someone at the meeting, this will be my next purchase. I have been checking out Photography 101 and already picked up a few helpful tips. I look forward to learning from everyone here and becoming a Premiere Member.

Thanks!

Ed,

Glad that you finally made it. I'm personally very happy to have you around ! Like I said at the meeting, if you want to get serious about aquatic / fish / plant photography, invest in 60mm f/2.8 or 105mm f/2.8 depending on your working space in your fishroom.

PS. I plan on doing live demonstration at the next Tri-Fecta meeting. Or maybe even full presentation, what do you think ?

All,

Ed is a good friend of mine, local hobbyist, member of NJAS and hell of a fish hobbyist / breeder. Please welcome Ed to the best aquatic - photography website online :)

Hi Ed, welcome to APF. You already have a very capable kit for taking fish photos. Please don't wait around for the macro lens to post your images. We can have you on your way in no time .

Welcome aboard Ed. I look forward to seeing some of your fish shots. You already have the most important accessory for quality aquarium fish captures-SB800. The macro lens will provide some wonderful images, but that doesn't mean you have to wait for it. Start snapping and sharing.:-D

Thanks everyone for all the replies!
Jay - I think a full presentation would be great!
I have a ton of fish pics but haven't played with the flash much. I just finished tonight one new rack that I moved 2 - 50 breeder tanks, 3 - 30 gallon tanks, 1 - 30 breeder, & a 33 Long tank. Next I am building two more racks which will be on 3 out of 4 walls. Lots of work, then time for pics. I thought I would have it done before I got in 90 fish last night. I had to crowd them in. The Apisto nijsseni's were outstanding! I can wait to take pics of them!
Take care all! I look forward to more posts! As soon as my new bank account gets registered in PAYPAL I will be a Premiere Member in a few days.

Welcome to the joys (and the frustrations) of aquatic photography! I hope you'll be able to show us some photos soon.
