I just set up a 125 gallon tank and have decided to keep native monsters in it. I found a couple of 3 inch bowfin at a local pet shop and decided to give them a try. I also plan to add some bullhead catfish, but plan to collect a few juveniles myself in the coming months.
I have kept bullheads before as well as large cichlids (Oscars Juguar Gaupote, Jack Dempsey, etc,) and pacus before, but I have never kept any bowfin. I would love to get some advice on raising juveniles. From what I have read online so far, they seem to be pretty predatory and need live foods to start. I have already fed mine some tiny largemouth bass that I collected, but would love any ideas about getting them started right.
