hello all !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
welcome to mfk , have a read of the thread phen_dox supplied you with ,some good information in there .

here are the basics ,
channa micropelties - red , redline ,toman, giant snakehead
temp - tropical species keep at 25 - 29 deg
size - reports upto 4ft , in aquaria around 3ft max ,will easy reach 2.5 ft
food - takes frozen / fresh live and dead food without much problem
water - unimportant , found in rivers and in still waters , tolerates wide ph range , its suspected water hardness plays a role in the adult sheen colouration which varies from purple to green ,depending where the fish is caught
filteration - this is important with a fish of this size , better to overfilter with this fish
tank size - i would not recomend anything less than a three foot wide tank for adult specamin with a lenght as long as you can afford -house

other considerations - as with all channa , they prefer old aged water , very sensitive to chlorine in tap water and large chemical changes in water makeup ,esp. in juviniles , i would recomend small water changes made with aged water to be done frequently , they will feel much more comfortable with the addition of floating plants ,and will be on view much more if theese are provided , can be kept in groups unless they pair off ,in which case the others in the group would swiftly be killed.

micros are a great fish , but come with great responsability and great requirments , i would urge anyone thinking of buying one to stop and think ! ,there are many just as good if not better channa that req less room food ect , that many newcommers to snakeheads overlook , check out pleuros and maularoids for easier larger fish , and obscura for a snakehead that is within most peoples reach of being able to house for life . having said that if you have a spare 8 x 3 x 3 or larger laying around an endless suply of food ,time and money ect then go for it , you wouldnt be disapointed

cheers col
