iv'e been reading alot of monster fish article for ages and thought it was about time i signed up, so here i am all new and bewildered by all the stuff on this site.
I have been keeping tropicals for ten years and haven't had a death in eight which was pretty good i thought.
so i went out and bought a 6x2x2 with fluval fx5,Now i have always loved discus and have read just about everything on them so i gave it a shot, they were warm friendly just like dogs i can honestly say i have discus fish fever and went up to the tank completely mesmerised.
THEN TRAGERTY STRUCK within four days i lost every single one of them i don't know what i did or where i went wrong. they were wormed. there water was fine and got it tested in about three other places aswaell as doing daily testing no one including myself knows what happened. I'm so gutted. so after finally pulling myself together. i have run mytank through a 20 : 1 ratio of bleach disinfecting the tank. it is the only way to ensure there are no parasites atall left. i got the o.k from seachem to do this just incase you all think i'm mad.
so now i have emptied the tank and about to refill and prime it like mad.
do another 1/2 change in about 48hrs stirring up the gravel so there are no pockets of chlorine and i will cyle it for probably 2- 4 weeks depending on tests. so what i want to do is mix different cichlid up but only have one of each so they don't pair off and breed and i hope to minimise stress, anger etc, what i do like are sevs and i have read that they can hold thier own but i want others like blue dolphin,big lipped, pearl and uaru.the thing is i need a common water perameter to suit eveyone equally, has anyone got any suggestions?and the most important thing is who and when would you start with and then introduce to the community.or has anyone done what i'm thinking of doing with great success?. cheers libby.
