Hi. I am new to this site. Does anyone have experience with a blue velvet damsel? I have read they are super aggressive. I have had mine for over 6 years and it is about 4-5 inches long. He gets along well with our maroon clown and never bothers our convict goby. 2 weeks ago we added a fire shrimp. He does chase the shrimp when it comes out from behind the live rock. My question is, with the damsel and the maroon clown is there any other type of fish that I can add that won't get bullied/beat up by this fish? We have an 85 gallon tank with plenty of live rock for hiding places. Thanks in advance for any advice!

pretty much you would have to re-arrange the tank and make the fish establish new territory when you add the new fish in. both blue velvet damsels and maroon clowns are supposed to be very aggressive and any addition into "their tank" might not go over to well. even re-arranging everything might not do the trick. but if i add a new damsel into my tank thats what i do. i actually just go the whole mile and do my water change, taking all my rock and decor from my 75 into containers so i can use the vacuum to get the crap laying around on the sand. or just do sections and move stuff around without taking stuff out.

my blue velvet is a little aggressive towards everything but my 4 1/2" green spotted puffer and my 4 inch spotted sharpnose puffer. hes very cool and his colors are stunning, as well as match one of my favorite football teams, the carolina panthers(we named him deangelo, because of deangelo williams from the panthers)

So do you think an angel is out of the question? of course I had wanted non-aggressive fish when I purchased them years ago and was assured by the owner of the lfs that this particular type of damsel is non-aggressive. I guess aggressiveness is all in the eye of the beholder :-)

lemonpeel angels are pretty feisty and should hold there own with clowns and damsels still do a water change andor rearange

85 gallon FOWLR. 1 maroon clown, 1 blue velvet damsel, 1 convict goby, 16 hermit crabs, 2 turbo snails, 2 sand shifting sea stars, 1 fire shrimp. We have had our tank up and running for 14 years. We have had the 3 fish for somewhere between 6-8 years. I don't remember exactly when we bought them but it was right around the same timeframe.
