Hi everybody,
Nearly clueless newbie here...not only am I new to digital SLRs, I'm new to forums and new to actually, seriously, for real, trying to take photos of things in water. I have some experience with Nikon SLRs, but I've never gotten deeply involved in the science of photography--my ratio of nice photos to yes-i-was-there photos was about one photo per roll of film. If i have any photos that are of the calibre of some I've seen here, it was the result of luck.
My husband, Rick, was extraordinary even for his excellent track record this year. He got me a Nikon D300 for my birthday, so I could take pictures of him driving his BMW Z4 on learners' days on the track. So far I've just been doing P&S playing with it (this not having to pay for film to learn on is wonderful!), but as there is a track day coming up this weekend, I'm going to learn to use at least the "photograph moving objects" technique real soon.
I live in the Los Angeles area of California USA; I am a member of the fish club California's Organization for Aquatic Show Tropicals (COAST). I'm a woman in my late 50's who is addicted to learning, my husband, my three cats (brand new kitten!), my fish, and the Gordon Setter puppy that's coming in a couple of years.
Most of my fish-keeping preferences are cichlids because they're such a good match for my moderately hard tap water and available time, but I find a great many fresh and saltwater fishes to be interesting and beautiful.
Looking forward to learning how to capture on "film" the images in my mind's eye,
Charlotte "nikonijit"
