The Real Norcal
I just traded my Leichardti arowana for these dats,a widebar and two indos.

the ST is about 6.5" or so, one indo is 5" and the other maybe 2.5-3"

the indos are almost perfect, they are stable (the smallest one wavers a little) and have nice dark bars. One has a different number of stripes on one side than the other though...

The widebar is pretty unstable. It has a darkish brown over its orange at the top of it's body and the bars are not solid but blotchy almost like an NGT's....Do you guys think it will stable out?The guy said it would I was just looking to get a few more opinions.

Also the widebar has something in one eye,it looks like an air pocket, does this go away?Thats my largest concern at the moment as it is rather unsightly...

The widebar is also incredibly skinny....

he said it was being picked on and had been being picked on for awhile by larger dats...maybe it's just taking awhile to recover from that situation?

they are pretty skittish right now and keep looking for a cave or something to hide in,which I have nothing.I figure theres enough decoration in there as is and they will probably stop after a few days or so,what do you guys think?

So all in all do you guys figure I got a good deal?not that there was anything to be done about it now if I didn't I was just wondering....I feel like I made out decent but I would be 100% happy if the widebar was perfectly stable and didn't have something in its eye.....if you guys figure those things might correct themselves over time then I am a happy camper otherwise I feel I just made out "okay"....

PS: also these pics I took today just 3-4 hours after putting them in the tank I don't know if that should be factored in...

I would say its a pretty good deal since leichartis are around 150$ and you figure that 6 inch widebar 200-300$ and indo's around that size are 30-50$.I dont think the eye will heal if you say it has a "air pocket" in it but i dont think however it would affect him in any way. He might stable out since he would be the largest one in the tank and might take the dominant role. Just give it time. Also your widebars bars wont get much better because yours are just blotchy and that isnt due to stress but rather it was born that way. Make sure he eats though and give it time.

Nice trade!

Sounds like the the other guy got the short end of the stick. Please take a better pic of the ST's eye.

Great pick up!:D

Those were some extras my boy had and has been wanting a big leichardti. From what I hear the lei is not the only fish that my boy picked up.:D I wouldn't say my boy got the short end at all, he just hooked up a fellow hobbyist! Enjoy those dats bro!

Sweet pickup, love it when locals can connect!

I tried to get pics of the eye but it was no go.

I don't think its an air bubble anymore though, I was looking at it with a flashlight and heres the conclusion Ive come up with, explained the best I can:

I noticed dats have their inside their eye what almost looks like another "lens" covering their pupil. Its the thing that makes their eyes glow blue so often when people are trying to take pics of them.My indos have it, you can see it especially from the side like when they are facing you, and I can see now how I almost mistook it for an air bubble. You can also see it on many pics in the datnoid pics thread, especially when they are out of the water like this one I borrowed from sinister J holding an NGT.

whats up with my dat is on one side that little lens is pushed in.When you look with a flashlight you can still see it but its pushed pack into the pupil not covering it.Thats the only way I can explain it.

I made a little illustration showing a normal dat eye with the "second lens" over the pupil (a) and then another showing how my dats eye looks..you can still see the second pupil but its pushed back down into the eye and almost looks like an air bubble.

I think I will post a thread in the dat section because I am really curious now whats up with his eye, I know I don't really dig it.

here I got the pics and you can see clearly what I was trying to say.

Over one of his eyes (his left eye) he has the "second lens" but on the other side it is not there.you can see the difference when he is facing toward you and you can see where the "second lens" is on the pics where his right side is facing toward the camera, it is not only not covering the pupil but is pushed back and downward into it.

It is very noticeable in person, and between this thing with his eye and his coloration (you can see how blotchy his bars really are in these pics) I am honestly not happy with the ST...too bad really but oh well :(

Also as far as his personality goes he has been trying to push himself under every piece of decoration I have for the last 48 hours. He just goes from one to the other to the other on a nonstop loop trying to shove himself under rocks and driftwood alike.

I will take all deco out of my tank before I will make a cave large enough to house a 6.5" dat that is a guarantee , esp since If I made him a cave I would have to make everyone a cave....

I think I am going to repost some of this in the dat section for some better chances of getting some feedback on the situation.
