I just purchased a gorgeous 10" black spotted eel. Water chemical levels at a perfect level, temperature set and regulated, and he was happy and flying around the tank. My wife and I stepped out for two hours and when returning home he found the one opening on the tank to jump out and found him on the floor. I immediately put him back in the tank , he began breathing and I just kind of partially held him in my hand till he started moving his head. The mucus secretion looking like dead skin was present. I could barely sleep last night. I woke up this morning and his mucus secretion is gone, color came back but he is laying down on his side and seems to be experiencing labored breathing. Can anyone tell me if this is a norm and a good sign that he may return to normal...other forms said it can take up to 3 days....severely attached to this eel and really don't want to lose him

Eels are sensitive as you’ve experienced. It’s a good sign that the color and secretions are gone. Yes give it a couple of days and dim the lights. Even a place to hide out and should get better.

Thank you very much. I just got overly nervous and happy to be a party of other savvy fish lovers

Going to put up pictures tommorow bought her a huge pipe looking cave dwelling, she was on her side for awhile and now she went in and out of the chamber alone but she is asleep slightly curled but upside down inside the piper. Her breathing is still regular but not slow. I am hoping she bounces back in a couple of days. Our baby tire track eel is severely attached and has been monitoring

Her sleeping upside down but breathing still kind of heavy not slow..dont know if this is bad
