So I've been stopping by here to read about big fish and big DIY tanks and such for years now, and I've always figured I'd wind up coming along eventually, so here I am.
... Well, no, it's not quite that simple. I apparently bought an RTC while half-asleep the other day and just noticed the 3" guy in my 55G this morning, so that's given me incentive to go ahead and get acquainted with you lot--and yes, I know, that RTC will need a new home very soon, especially since it's living with a featherfin cat, three bala sharks [I always have been amused by our calling carps sharks], two leopard ctenopamas, aaaaand an oscar. That Oscar's due for getting moved into a new home soon, too, he's outgrowing his friends and thinks he can bully the featherfin which decided to whack him a few times and not budge. So anyway...
Introducing myself, I'm a not-quite-23 year old minimum wage worker with self-taught skill in building things with wood and remodeling and demanding things to work. I've a 30G aquarium that hasn't needed a water change or even had its filter cleaned in a year because somehow the overpopulation of fish and crapload of pretty little plants I put into it are... balanced. Nothing has died in that year except one neon tetra--that idiot got hit by a loach knocking a rock over while demolishing snails like they do so happily. Then there's that now empty 45G tank which once housed an adult snowflake eel and a foot and a half long grouper that I raised from 3" until I got tired of dealing with salt tanks after a reef tank worth over $2k up and died over night for no apparent reason beyond I suppose an ammonia bloom despite the water checking out almost flawlessly for months and getting obessive care, so whatever, screw salt. Oh right, and there's the 10G that was for a time a brine shrimp tank for feeding hungry critters, but that's empty in the garage too, alongside a 30G that someone gave for free but I don't know if it even holds water because it just sits there full of a mountain of re-sun-bleached base rock from the dead reef and did you know empty tanks make amazing boxes?
By the way, I do ramble plenty, just a warning. Did I mention that I bought an RTC, and have an empty basement room to do whatever I want with? I'm thinking it's time to finally build my giant wall tank, but I still have to think out the best way to go about this and what better way than to actually talk to people instead of hoping I know what I'm doing?
So with all that mess shared, I welcome myself aboard and I will be disappointed if I don't get criticism at least a few times during my time here--though I might not leave now that I made an account, and I apologize for that ahead of time for I'm not easy to deal with.
