Hello,

I'm Chris from Germany.
Being a passionate fisherman I was always interested in big fish.
The last years more and more in keeping these in ponds and tanks.

I'm especially interested in more "coldwater-like"-species like Esox, Silurus, Bass-Species and Snakeheads from areas where is some kind of "winter"-period.

Currently I only keep a dozen of Largemouth Bass ( Micropterus salmoides ) in a garden pond, but got experiences with some other species like Silurus glanis too.

I would like to expand the hobby a bit, with Aquariums and small ponds.
Maybe I get some interesting ideas while reading in this big forum....

Welcome.

Welcome aboard Chris !
The Northern Snakehead would probably be the best option for your pond . Only the Snakehead would survive because any other species probably would be eaten.

Thanks, yes I thought about the species, despite the bad reputation. All Channa are legal here, but northern are hard to get though. Would be interesting to see how they do in an outdoor pond, because it's colder here than in the most of its distribution in the US. But species I must put back indoors in winter are interesting too. Maybe some gar, or southern localitys of Hoplias....

I personally like the Esox species with the Muskie being a favorite of mine.

Yes, I've kept a small Northern Pike once, they are great. Sadly every other Exos-Species are nonexistent in the trade here. It's easyer to get a nile perch or things like that, than a muskie. But hope to get an opportunity one day for the southern pike (Esox cisalpinus or flaviae) from italy, some individuals have CRAZY pattern (google for "daniele tamborini esox", can't post links at this stage).

Hello Chris, I see you like pikes, you should take a look into the posts of E_americanus E_americanus he isn’t active anymore but he was a wealth of knowledge when he was. I do hope you enjoy your stay here comrade, feel free to ask any questions you may have.
