Hi my name is Mimi...I originally was a koi and goldie enthusiast...until I walked into Petco about 11 months ago. I seen a poor LITTLE quarter sized pacu that was suffering from fungus and ick and NOT being treated. The "person" in the aquatics section didn't really seem to be all that concerned about the poor thing. Lots of fish were dead or dying (as usual). I had made the purchase I needed and left. Only made it 5 miles down the road and did a u-turn....back to Petco...paid full price....hell I have brought back koi with ulcers and full blown dropsy so this shouldn't be no biggie. No Pun!!! Initially I had heard they get HUGE. Took him home...set up tubs (bucket method) got out all my medical fishy gear got him in tip top shape! In between all this I did research which blew my mind...but was prepared as we have koi that no longer have to come indoors for the winter due to the larger pond that was built....THANK GOD! Luckily the largest aquarium we have right now is a 75g along will several others. We are currently selling ALL not being used and putting into "New Pacu Tank" fund seeing how we now have a new fin kid that will need a really big bedroom!
His tankmate is...no laughing! A comet goldfish that was mating with koi and made really ugly "koi-mets"....now it is trying to make....."Pa-mets"! And YES I have it on video...the Pacu does not even mind the "love rubs" from the comet!

He is such a sissy and afraid of EVERYTHING even the light, had to tint the glass to dim the light!
Our Pacu is now about 8" high and 14" long....growing like a weed! Think he is a boy
