Hull
Hello all, I`m Craig hailing from Hull in the UK.
I purchased a Nikon D40 around 3 mths ago and have been browsing the A-P forum for a month or so picking up some helpful hints and tips and admiring some stunning photos while i`m at it.
I`ve been keeping mbuna for about 18 mths now and wild caught for about 6.
Any reccomendations on what are the best type of lens for aquatic photography ie Macro, zoom, wide angle would be appreciated also ooh and arrhing over getting the sb400 flash or saving a few more pennies for the sb600.

look forward to being around for a good while longer :-D

Welcome Craig.

As for lens it depends on what type of photography you want to do.
If you want full tank shots you may have trouble using a macro lens,
but macro lenses are great for the close in work. Some members here have shown excellent work with zoom lenses. Wide angle could provide some interesting shots,
but probably not the best choice for the long run.

Thanks Bobby and Micheal.
Its definitely the close up shots i am interested in, so its macro or zoom lenses i want to be looking at.

Thanks

Craig

Welcome to APF. I recommend the 60mm MicroNikkor, if you can afford it (don't be fooled by the name, it's a macro lens). Some people prefer the longer 105mm, but I'm happy with the 60.

Welcome!

The 60mm f/2.8 is the lens to go with for aquatic photography. As for flash, I would bypass the SB400 and go to the SB600.
