Hello everyone!

My name is Hector and I live in Astoria, New York. I just bought my first Tank ever and I am SUPER EXCITED! It's a 45 Gallon Tall, I have no clue what to put in it yet, but it is up and running!

Yes, another NYer. Welcome to MFK. You should make sure the tank is cycled and start stock that baby with 2 convicts.

Thanks rasa92re, I just started the cycle about 30 hrs ago.
So Convicts are a good starting fish for the tank? For Cycling purposes?

They are hardy cichlids, which means good for cycling. Make sure you have adequate filtration. Some may say 2 convicts may be too much but a 45 is fine if well filtered.

I am literally a newbie at this, so exactly what do you mean when you say that 2 convicts might be too much? I am using a 90g Filtering system with the 2 Wheels. They tell me thats good for proper bacteria build up for the tank?

If you mean bio-wheels then yes it's adequate filtration. When someone says that "it's too much" that means that they are saying your fish stock is too high and you may be producing a higher bio-load than your filtration system could handle.

I'm going to do some research on convicts. I wanted to have a few fish (4-5) in the tank tho, maybe some shrimp and plant life. But I know I need to figure out if me and the tank can handle all that. Thanks for your help.
