Hello!!! I am so happy that I found this place! :)

My name is carrie and I am the very proud mommy of a very giant, very gentle Pacu, (named ..Pacu!), and his best buddie a very large, grumpy Oscar, (named....Oscar!)

I have been browsing through the website and reading some very informational things about Pacus and Oscars. This site is awesome!!!

I was a little intimidated to post because I don't want anyone to think that I am another one of those people that see the little Pacu in the store and think...AHHH... I want one, then get one without realizing what it is exactly that they are about to take home! Dont get me wrong.. I am still learning, however the way I became "mommy" to these two awesome fish and have come to love them just like any dog I have ever owned, well.... thats .... a fish story in its self!

A couple of years ago my neighbor had to suddenly move out of state and could not take her new 55 gallon tank and her new "babies" with her. I had just started a tank of my own about 6 months earlier with some cichlids so guess who she asked? Well I had no idea, I mean NO IDEA...

Now two years later.... Pacu and Oscar have moved to a bigger tank and are quickly out growing it as well. Pacu is my baby!!! I cant believe how much you can love a fish... but I am telling ya... I LOVE MY PACU AND OSCAR!!! If I could figure out how to put him on a leash... they would go everywhere with me. I dont know alot about these two except what I have read, but the things that they have taught me is sooo much more!!! I have read that some Pacus are mean.... hard for me to believe!! My Pacu is a fat jolly fish that is very well aware of everything going on outside the tank and both are very smart! My Pacu seriously smiles at me and wags like a dog when I come talk to him!!! He likes to play ball with a ping pong ball and sometimes Oscar plays too. Funny they way the two are together... they are so cool to watch!

So that's are hello and I am very excited to meet everyone and hear any and all advise that I can get!!

thanks
carrie Pacu and Oscar

oh.... did i mention that Pacu is well over 24 inches long and over 12 inches from top to bottom and weighs ... at least 12 lbs.. or more! He's my fat boy!!:)

Welcome. Let me be the first to tell you, that that tank is waaaaaay too small for that fish.
I'm not trying to be mean, but it's a bit crule to have him in that thing like that.

I'm sure you'll do the best you can to make it right for him though. I wish you good luck.
Does anyone have any GOOD advice for this woman?

thank you for the reply! yes I do realize about the tank... we are actually closing on our new house and I am moving him and Oscar into a 250 gallon. Seriously this is where I am still learnig.... less then 6 months ago when we got this tank moving him from a 55 to a 90... he fit!! OMG I just cant believe how very fast he grows! and HOW MUCH! We currently live in a mobile home and I am not sure the floors could take a bigger tank.... part of the reason we are moving! So just a few weeks and I promise .... He will be free willy! Now... any suggestions on how I move him cuz I am clueless and freaking out about it! thanks

Hello and welcome!
Impressive fish, glad that they're gonna get an upgrade!
And it won't be your last, seeing the growthrate on your Pacu!
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Good luck with the move and the home purchase.

If you haven't already bought the 250 gallon tank. Don't. Its not big enough. You are going to need at least 400 gallons. Seriously save your dollars for a little longer and only buy a MONSTER tank once. Buing him a 250 now means buying him a 400 in a year. Its a lot cheaper to only do that once.

Another thing to keep in mind is that pacus school... if you could get him at least one more to hang out with it would be better. How anyone could accommodate a school of 6+ of those beasts is beyond me... but a second one would be fine in that 400 gallon tank.

Welcome. I too have a pacu/ oscar combo. I have 2 red bellied pacus in with an oscar in a 210 gallon tank. Next spring they will go into a home made tank that will be about 450 gallons. I started out with one and recently acquired a second one. A fish I loved and I thought was so happy was suddenly MUCH happier. I didn't know it was an option for him to get even more personality but he did.

Welcome to MFK!!!

You have an amazing pacu there and good luck with the upgrade. I dont keep anything that large because i dont have room for anything larger than the tank i have now (350G) but when i upgraded my fish from a 180 to a 350 it was amazing. I havnt seen my fish happier and there is NOTHING more satifying than putting your fish into the monster tank they deserve and watching them swim madly up and down!

welcome to MFK... nice to hear someone else sound just like me about pacus.. they are my favorite of all fish... awesome sweet personality.... just love them.. and congradulations on your new home to be... and new home to be for your pacu and oscar.. don't forget to feed some delicious greens to your pacu... they love zuchnini slices and even bits of carrots and small pieces of grapes..good luck to you..:DView attachment 418284
