Hello everyone. I'm new to owning an aquarium, and own a 55 gallon tank with 1 Silver Arowana(about 3'), 1 Blue Jack Dempsey(about 1 1/2'), 1 unknowingly Dyed Yellow Blood Parrot(about 2'), and 1 Pleco(about 2 1/2').

All my fish, along with the tank were purchased from my lfs. I've made the mistake of adding my fish before the tank is cycled, following the lfs managers advice of adding stress coat to tap water and letting the tank filter for 48 hours, then adding fish(Sunday morning), I also borrowed a friends filter cartridge for my Aqueon 55. After searching post all Sunday night and finding out about this whole cycle process I rushed monday morning to the lfs and was recommended something called Nutrafin Cycle, and also purchase a test kit to check the water. When I tested the water last night i had 0 nitrate, 0 nitrite, 0 ammonia and ph 6.5. I then added the Cycle. Today when checked it read the same exept a change in the ph to 6.0. I am going to do a 15% water change today and add more Cycle. My fish seem happy, the only thing I noticed was that the arowana seems to be turning brownish, and is occasionally swimming low.

I am feeding all three TetraMin Pro along with baby crickets for the arrowana, and baby guppies for the two cichlids. They have been eating fine, although the arowana won't eat Hikari Gold floating pellets i was recommended.

Am I doing everything ok? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm really worried about the fish getting sick or dying. Sorry for the long introduction, but I feel it's the best way to get to know me.

Thanks, glad to be here.

hello fellow NYer and MFKer.....welcome and watch how your going to become addicted to the hobby and website

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but do you think my fish will be ok? And thanks for the hospitality.

make sure you add Biozyme (which is what I'm used to) to help emergency cycle your tank...in my experiences, it is a great product

in the long term, that tank is WAYYYY to small for all those fish (bio-load will be too great for the tank size and the fish will be too large).....I would suggest getting a larger tank very soon seeing that your fish's growth rate will increase dramatically until around 5 or 6''

welcome to MFK.... Sounds like you are doing okay..sounds like you had a crash course... hope the arow baby is alright.. don't understand the color change... maybe you could post up pics of the baby in arow forum and we can take a look... is he eating the baby crickets.. did he have egg sack when you got him... i am glad your here.. you are going to learn alot...but you will have fun too.. ask away.... if you have questions...:D:DView attachment 348684
