Brand new to aquariums. Always wanted one. But I didn't do my homework and bought a 29 gallon kit from walmart a couple weeks ago. My fish are healthy and active but I need to buy a better filter and I think I have alot to learn.

Even with the water being slightly hazy they are relaxing and great. There are so many filters on the market I admit to being confused. But I'm in this and want to learn and then move on to a larger tank after I know what I'm doing.

My cardiologist is a "fish nut" and has several 90 gallon tanks both freshwater and marine in his waiting room and I'd like to learn enough to have a great 90 gallon freshwater tank what is called a community tank in my living room.

Any advice is welcomed and appreciated on what I need to buy to get my first tank in good shape before it gets bad. So many filters and products all claiming to be the best. I'm lost!

Welcome!
Your making the right move by looking for advice. Were you aware that you had to cycle your tank first? If so, how did it go? If not, do a water test quickly and see if you might have got by without any fish losses. If you are showing any ammonia or nitrites, my advice would be to go ask your Cardiologist fish nut if you can borrows some of his cycled media to get your tank in an established state. As far as filtration goes, what type of fish are you keeping, or planning on keeping, and how many of them? If your stocking levels are small, you might be OK with whatever filter your "walmart setup" came with. I would post your questions in a more suitable forum ( maybe set-up and filtration?) for more traffic. Use the search function too and you will find alot of answers from some of the more experienced guys.
Again welcome to MFK!
