Hello all,
My name is Todd, I am heavily in to planted tanks and photography. Actually two of my main hobbies. I am a member of the "Southern California Aquatic Plant Enthusiasts" (SCAPE). Some guy named Edward is a member of our group as well... I believe he goes by the name "Paradise" on both sites.
I've been shooting since I was a teen. My father got me into shooting at the Grand prix, Blue angels, scenery etc. First setup Nikon FE, upgraded to a second body / MD-12 Motor Drive / Telephoto lenses began shooting surfing as a pure amateur. Most of my buddies where sponsored by surfed companies. I considered myself a serious amateur photographer.
Early 20's, career in the medical field... traveling for a living etc... kinda gave it up until....
A year and a half ago! 10+ years later. A very nice gift from my girl!
Nikon D80, and now have - 24 f 2.8, 18-105, 55-200, SB-600
...and a bunch of older gear, couple flashes, lenses, and still have my FE's
Digital was a new form for me, heck still is. Much came back, some a little slower... The passion was, and still is there.
My landscapes, and people shots I am exceptionally pleased with. Some shots I find myself saying..."I did that"? I am more than happy with 1 out of 100. Digital allows me this freedom. I doesn't hurt to have a wonderful subject to shoot.
Now for my problem, and why I am here...
Hello...my name is Todd...and I...I can't shoot my tank!
OK I can shoot it, mostly full tank shots, but they don't "POP". I've got a couple buddies who shoot for a living, giving me advice, recommending changes I can make etc. But neither have experience shooting a little glass cage filled with water.
I do have Photo Shop LR2. I shoot raw, but would like to have a better understanding of methods for shooting tanks. Not just editing those shots.
I look forward to reading the great articles here, and possible advice from those more knowledgeable than I.
Thank you
Todd
