hello from southern cali

hey everyone hows it goin.. my name is matt aka hippiglass and im from southern california and dig this whole monster fish keeper sene! i had a 40gal tank a while back but never really was able to get serious about it.. and one day i went to the pet store to get stuff for my beagles and the fish caught my eye like normal, i go check them out and end up walkin out with a 10gal..for my kid ran it for a few days before i went and picked out the fish.. and ended up with some cichlids...( i wanted the needle nose gar and the cooler bigger fish haha)

but i guess some cichlids get big lol...my wife digs them and i talked her into letting me get a big tank for the house..proly going to get a 75-85 gal tank.. and put the tiger oscar we just got in it and some other new ones i wanna get..eels, puffers ect as long as they dont kill each other i guess..

heres some pix of my kids tank that we set up.. maybe you guys might know what type of cichlids these are? i forgot the names.. i know the tiger oscar but not sure on the others..

the tiger oscar has way more orange then what the cam caught

hey dude, nice little tank you got running. the red cichlids a jewel cichlid, not sure about the others. welcome

thanks guys!... im finding the oscar is a lil picky...might have to try small guppies with him...other then that there lovin the tank.... i cant wait to get the 75-85 gal tank going..

View attachment 603584welcome to mfk... nice to meet you matt.. the yellow one is an african fish called a yellow lab..very pretty set up.. please forget the idea of feeding guppies.. live food introduces parasites and unless you raise it yourself it happenes so often.... just give the oscar a varied diet.. different pellets and algae wafers and frozen shrimp.. krill etc..you will need to separate the oscar from these fish because otherwise he will make a meal of his tankmates...he may be thinking of that now..maybe thats why he is being fussy

thanks on the info! i think im picking up a 100 gal tomorrow found one online with 100gal bow front tank comes with oak stand and top for 400 some pumps to but ill proly buy new ones anyway...
