I'de like to introduce myself, I'm Brian Tucker from Southern Indiana. I've been raising "monster fish" since I can first remember! My first fish that I can recall was a red bellied piranha that my older sister gave me when I was maybe 10 years old. I've had Cichlids, puffers, Piranha's, flower horns, and currently have a VERY old oscar named Loafy. I signed up to this forum to learn a bit more about snakeheads (a fish that I remember being sold at Wal Marts when I was younger!) and to plan my next purchase of an aquarium monster. The last endeavor I undertook was to raise a Pet Stop flowerhorn for 3 years. It turned out to be a female and its growth seemed stunted. Sadly she died about 3 weeks ago after battling an unknown disease for several weeks. Anyways I appreciate any help any of the other members give me and hopefully I can contribute to this forum for years to come!

welcome

err mite be a silly q but arnt snakeheads illigal in the usa

Good to see another Indiana member on here.

As far as snakeheads go, they are now illegal in Indiana (and basically the entire US). I remember seeing redlines at the lfs around 15 years ago. The best bet is so get a bowfin, they look very similar to snakeheads.

What size tank do you have?

Yes snake heads have been illegal for several years now. I remember when they banned them because they took over the population of a pond and are generally scary fish. I don't personally want a snakehead, I was just researching them. I plan to raise another flowerhorn, or a Frontosa this time.

As for tanks, I have a 55 gallon that loafy lives in and a pair of 20 gallon shorts that're unoccupied at the moment. I also have a few 10 gallons I used to raised breeder fish a few years ago.

I would like to find a good looking flowerhorn, but haven't had much luck around here. Any good stores down your way?

I found a pretty good looking flowerhorn at Green Tree pet center today. I found my last flowerhorn at the Pets Mart in Bloomington. I've been considering ordering a lot of 5 baby flowerhorns and raising them, keeping the pick of the litter and selling off the rest. I've found a few people willing to sell them on eBay but it's a gamble.
