Just thought I'd introduce myself. I've been reading a lot of great diy's and tech info on this site for a couple weeks and decided to join up. Seems like a good site! I hope the lawsuit ends in MFK's favor.

I'm a car nut, I have a very modified Mustang that I drive in nice weather. I also have a lightly tuned SVT Focus for my work car. I have a background in mobile electronics, fabrication and I currently build the interiors of midsize corporate jets. I also had a short stint in framing and concrete when I was a teen.

As for something more inline with the premise of this site, I kept a small tank with guppies and some other fish when I was a teen. Haven't had a tank for about 13yrs until 6mo ago. I purchase a 30gal hex tank from someone on craigslist. I recently removed of all the faux plants and added leveling sand and live plants. About a week ago I purchased a 125gal long tank. I'm in process of building the stand (even on xmas eve, lol) and I'll post pics of the build and final product soon. My next task will be a 3d foam/cement background and then I'll start the actual tank build-up.

The plans are to have white play sand (which I already have and will thoroughly clean) and nice plants. I'm not sure which species of plants to get yet besides hairgrass and xmas moss. Plants are an area that I'm still researching. I have a 5m roll of smd LEDs that I will use in addition to the fluorescent tubes that came with my tank if necessary. I may just convert solely to LED's. To start, I'll be running two ebay filters with and "advertized" 530gph. I read in several places that they really only run half of that so I bought two. I'll adjust as necessary when they're installed.

For livestock I want a few Discus as the main display fish. Everyone around here goes for cichlids so I want something else. Especially since cichlids are notoriously territorial. The most challenging part of this tank will be to maintain water softness. Fortunately, my local grocery store sells RO water for $.49/gal. Anyway, I would also like 1-3 angels and a few bottom feeders/algae eaters which I haven't chosen yet.

Okay, that's my story. I'm gonna go back to looking at all the sweet tanks on here now.

A couple edits: I'm not 100% sure I'd like to add angels now. I read that they tend to carry parasites that they're immune to, but discus are not.

Also, I read up on the corys and otocinclus' that I already have. They seem to be compatible for discus. I'll just need to keep an eye on the otos for latching onto the discus'.

As for plants, it seems like java moss and amazon sword will be a good start. Xmas moss doesn't do well over 77deg and my tank will be 82ish.

Thoughts? Should I move these questions to a different thread?
