I am just in the process of purchasing a 180 gallon tank. The dimensions are 6'L X
2'W X 2'H. I was wondering what type of lighting I would need, since it is going to be a planted tank, and where a good place to purchase it would be?

I just wanna say :welcome: .

And skip the planted info cause I'm not too keen on all that....

someone will come around with a great answer soon though.:)

Keep posting!

:welcome:

2-4 watts per gallon

:newbie:

I think that would equate to 2 29gal tops but I would go with glass tops so you can do dual or triple lighting....ok, not sure what size but you'll need more than a single light unless you want to spent money on an ultra retarded bright salwater light setup. I did a Life glo and marine glo on my 120....marine glo is like an actinic(blue) and really brightens things up including color. This will help any plants out imensly also. Where to get them?? Classifieds or get to Pet whatever and start shopping. Good luck.

Big fish and planted tanks don't mix :wall:

Lighting on a tank that large woudl need to be pretty powerful to get to the bottom.

wellcome to the board

welcome to MFK bro. with a tank size like that, you should be keeping MONSTER FISHES !!!! get into the hardcore stuff man.

Welcome. If you are dead set on having a planted tank then I might suggest some sort of pendant type lighting AKA: metal halide to get at least 2~4 watts per gallon and try to use glass tops. Again...Welcome to MFK!
