Hello,
I am Massha and I am a newbie.
I had a globe fish tank when I was a kid. By the end, all the guppies and mollies and tetras somehow got lost (maybe the cat ate them?...) and my Mom just grows pretty houseplants in the tank. That's about my experience with aquariums.
Now, at my 43, I really want a saltwater aquarium. To that end, I am reading up on equipment, maintenance, fish, etc. I do not know yet what size I can have. I am moving into a 1 bedroom apartment in a different state in a couple weeks; once I settle in, I'll know. I want the biggest I can fit, which is not saying much. Once I figure the apartment space out, I can start planning the rest. I'll be lurking around here for a while educating myself.
I was directed here while searching for options for multilevel stand arrangements. I am not sure if that can work, but I think I would like to have a "surf and turf" kind of arrangement, with a [most likely, reef] aquarium and then above it tiered plant stands topped by nice lighting fixture closer to ceiling. The way I see it, a heavy-duty steel 5 shelf unit (which I have not found yet) might do the job, but there are little details with stuff coming down from watered plants and then possibly some temperature issues from the plant light. I really have to think this one through. I am not that much of a DIY'er, even though I can drill holes, put together some pieces of wood and plywood (as long as they are cut right by the friendly neighborhood store people), sand, stain and varnish them. (I hate sanding
... I don't have those fancy sanders...) I really appreciate any input here.
Since I'm only starting, I have not really decided on much. I'm researching.
Space in my apartment is extremely limited... So I have to be creative on how I put things together.
Regards,
Massha
