Hello everyone.

I hope to meet some new people and learn as much as possible. Just got my first Flowerhorn, would like to get everyone’s opinion.

Had him for a week now and things are going great. The only issue I’m having is that he only wants to eat one certain type of pellet, all others he wants nothing to do with. Tried soaking in garlic, no joy.A909AC28-081D-4602-B79D-B49EC0F86609.jpeg0D373023-D8C4-4866-8975-FCEF0984EE36.jpeg

Nice looking guy. Straight flowerline, good shape kok, and nice body structure. Is he fading? Looks like some fader genes. Whatever it is, I like him personally
I don't think he's fading. Everything else I agree on but it just appears that he has allot of pearling towards his back half.

Btw OP good job on your first FH, very good looking lil guy there and looks to be very happy. As for getting him to try other foods you could fast him for a few days to a couple weeks or try adding in another fish such as a blood parrot or large mollies. I find that it often works to have another fish in the tank to give the FH a sense of competition for the food.

Also if ya don't mind, could we see a pic of the full tank and the decor in it?

Thank you, hopefully I can get him to take a variety of pellets. As far as the tank here is a pic, not much to it. It’s a 65 gallon with a black background, no decorations or substrate, I here that is best for Flowerhorns in general. I have a Fluval canister filter along with a HOB and a sponge filter. It has a rain bar which gives it a lot of surface agitation.1C816149-EAD5-4DC8-BE0C-81BD98F305FD.jpeg

Good sized tank atleast but I would recommend some decor and substrate unless ya plan on making it into a competition fish. I find the FH's often get stressed out when they have nothing to hide in or behind along with nothing to do but swim. With mine I just put some simple decor in the tank to where they can either hide inside of something or behind it along with some fake plants and gravel to dig in. I find mine quite often digging in the gravel or trying to move the plants around.

These are my 2 girls btw. The pink one is Star and the colored one is her big sister Big Bertha.

Very nice looking girls....I really don’t want to add substrate but maybe I will add a simple clay pot or something, I have seen that in some tanks and it looks good.

Going to try some Hikari Blood-Red Parrot pellets tonight, they look exactly like the pellets he currently will eat, wish me luck.

Yeah it can be tricky sometimes getting a fish to try new things but with a lil patience and perseverance it's doable. If ya ever change your mind on substrate I would recommend some small rocks roughly the size of marbles. Still helps with giving a natural look to the tank while also being too big for the fish to swallow.

You could try some potted plants and flat stones for a zen look. And some kind of toy to tinker with.
