Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce my self. I am new to these forums...

Been lurking around without posting, and I have to say that there are some extremely talented people here. The fish tanks that I´ve seen here are simply amazing!! :headbang2

So, little background.. I used to have a freshwater 30 Gal tank, which had a nice amazonian setting with some cichlids. I had the tank for 4 years, it was great.. but regretfully had to leave the country and had to sell it all. 3 years have passed since then, and I really want a fish tank.. miss it soo much. :(

Ok, now to my current situation. I bought an apartment which is in contruction with a target date of delivery for mid next year. Now, for the good part. Since they are currently installing the walls etc, it give me room to customize my apartment. My apartment will be very modern, clean lines, very avantgard. What I would like to do, is install a fish tank in the wall, which is between two rooms, (My main living room and the TV watching area).

The reason why I'm posting this today (and not sure if this falls between the lines of a "monster fish tank") is because they are asking me to specify the dimension of the walls, and how they should leave them. (In terms of cut out etc.) So... I wanted to take advantege of placing in the wall, mid heigh, a fish tank that would be 11 foot long, 14 inches wide and 12 inches tall. In gallons it would be approximately 90 Galons.

I want to have a nice clean line across one of the walls, and that line would be my fish tank.

I would like to start ordering it right now, and building it appropriately off site before instalation. I would order the sheets and do all the work myself.

I guess, my questions would be:
For a fish tank that is this long.. does it matter if I pick Glass or Acrylic?
Is there anything I should consider? in terms of space, room, etc? I saw that people have drip tanks? Do I need one? since my fish tank is going to be so long, is there something special that I need? do I need to be worried about something that I havent though of? flow of water? etc...

What type of fish would be recommended for a long tank?

Thank you all for reading this.. I´m kinda nervous. My GF is totally against this fish tank.. but, I love fish, love diving and just love how they look.. so, I´m doing it! haha. :D Anyway, would love to hear your advice, questions.. whatever you consider appropriate.

I know its early on, but, I like to be prepared, and as I mentioned, they need to know what I´m planning on doing so that they can install the correct water/electrical outlets.. and also interms of space.. Do I need an extra space? I will attach a jpg of the apartment and where it supposed to go.

Thanks all!! :D and sorry for the long post!

This is where it would go! Viewable from both sides. As you can see there is space where that closet is.. well, I can make more space :chillpill: :)

"What type of fish would be recommended for a long tank?"

The recommended length of the fish housed is determined by the width of the tank.

That being said you could try 2 or 3 different shoals of fast swimming finned friends and set the tank to flow in one direction.

i like the idea, but i think it look alot better if you made the tank taller, and wider.

the problem with your tank is that is so long, you will need thick glass on the bottom. maybe 1/4'' - .5''. but then your tank only needs the wall thickness 1/4''.

also because you tank is so small, width wise, you can only keep small schooling fishes, or african ciclids.

IMO build as big of a tank as you can afford. i will garentee you that you will be regretting your build, because you will be wanting a bigger tank
