Hi everyone.

A little introduction. Male, 25 years old Singaporean here, been living in Australia for the past 5 years.

I used to have 2 Arowanas, a Gold and a Jardini. Long time ago now. Currently in Singapore I have 8 kois in a pond and a giant gourami which my family is looking after. In Australia, I have 2 Oscars and a tank of breeding platies which are my Oscar's food.

Hoping to keep some real monsters when I return to Singapore. Should be getting a 6 foot tank to house one Golden Crossback Arowana and getting an 8 metre pond made to house an Arapaima.

That's all from me...hope to gain much from you guys.

How big is that gourami? I saw an 18" one in a public aquarium but have never seen them for sale. Welcome in.

I saw Giant Gouramis for sale at Aquarium Center a couple days ago!
Red Tailed ones?
$44-$45 a pop.
Is that normal?!

I also saw a hugeeeeeeeeeeee, god, had to be like at least 20 -24 incher at RiverDalePets.
Freakin huge!
Dick said it had be at least 15+ something years old.

How can there be such HUGE ones and such teenie tiny ones!?

How many versions of this True Giant Gourami are there?!

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome.

Giant Gourami's only a baby at the moment, bought it when it was around 2 inches in February this year? Now my mum says it's around 6 inches. Hope it grows big and huge as it's regarded as a feng shui fish.

Biggest ones I saw are around 2 feet so 24 inches would be about right, but they were in a concrete pond. They get to around 18 inches in about 1 to 2 years I think.

Why are the prices of the Giant Gouramis so expensive outside Asia? I got mine for SG$18 (US$10-12) which is considered expensive already. Australia sells 3 inch ones for AU$300 (US$220??)!!

A little trivia, the most valued Giant Gouramis are from Sabah, Malaysia. The fries of this strain have extremely red colourings on the tails and finnages. And when full grown, the tail looks like a flame, not like a fan. The fanned tail one are the cheaper and more common ones. Sabah Giant Gouramis command about SG$100-200 (US$45-90) for a 3 inch fry.

Hard toship and because they aren't impressive/pretty until they get big there isn't much market for them, supply and demand. Shippers just about have to sneak themin with stuff that sells. Same reason the little gobies and killies don't reach here, or the big but plains.

Hey Corydoras...you in arofanatics.com?

Guppy...I see, the reason for their rarity here is because if they get into the water system here, the eco balance will be severely upset, same reason why the arowana is banned here and why the oscar is recently banned in Queensland.

Hullo everybody, Sid here from Bombay, India.

I'm an absolute beginner in the aquarium world, currently have a 20 planted gallon tank with Guppies, Platys and Mollys. DON'T LAUGH!!

However, as my income (for now) seems to headed up and I love aquariums, I'm looking to really spruce things up - my next tank should be in the region of ~300 gallons, and I want to get some serious fish in there, starting with a few examples of Megalodoras (LOVE catfish!) or Polypterus

I'm here to absorb... don't want to make mistakes AFTER I've got my new tank. So if I ask dumb questions, bear with me, I'm only trying to learn! :)
