Hello everyone. I'm Walt and I have been keeping Saltwater fish for about 9 years. I noticed that most of you are FW keepers, and yes I know there are other SW only sites, but also I noticed that you have at least one individual that has an extremely large glass and concrete system. I'm hoping I can gain a little insight on my own 5000 gallon system I'm trying to plan.

I currently have only one tank. It's a 210 gallon reef tank.

:welcome: We have some other salties here as well, but you're right...its mostly fresh.
Browse around, make yourself at home and ask away!!

w00000000 Another crraaazzzyyy!!! :naughty:

hehe good luck with it all, if you dont find it on the forums here, ask.. people are good at throwing their 2c in =)

WELCOME!!!!

I kept saltwater for 5 years before I turned to the Freshside...hahaha. Totally awesome! Thats gonna be a challenge for a hobbyist to pull off for sure, freshwater was a big enough of a challenge, but salt? Wow. You got gutz man. That protein skimmer is gonna be wicked. My suggestion would be to go to some zoo's and ask to see their filtration units. A lot of them are sand trickle filters that are huge! HUGE! LoL! Either way, hope your dream becomes a reality! Welcome!

Hiya WDLV, welcome to MFK, and good luck on the 5000g

I plan to speak with Mike Paletta and Joe Yuello (spelling?) of Atlantis Aquarium in Riverhead NY. Mike Has helped numerous people set up 1000 plus gallon systems including his own. Joe Y. built the 20,000 gallon reef tank at Atlantis. Both are within day trip distances from where I live. I have already watched two presentations of Joe's and been on a behind the scenes tour at the Atlantis aquarium.
I have also seen one of Mike's presentations. I'm sure that I will get there and reach my goals of keeping the maintenance affordable.
Thank you all for the warm welcome.
