In a Smuckers jar.
I recently got into peacock basses( just yeasterday) and I was wondering if a 240 or 180 gallon tank will be large enough to house atleast 4 peacocks for life? How big of a tank will I need if not? Also do all peacocks get to about the same size or it differs from species?

ok they defferen't sizes if there monos the 240 will be too small i say more 280g with dimensions of 8x2.5x2 that will givve your ps plent of room and you could add a aro or somthing :) if its a tem go way bigger they get 3-4' long! what type do you have ??????

Thanks for the reply. I havn't bought a peacock yet, still doing reaserch. Im probally going to stick with monos or other basses that dont get 3-4 ' like the Tems. If I start with 2" P's how long will it take them to out grow a 36x18x18" tank? Will the 280 be enought room for 4 peacocks? can I put more then 4? lol srry for all the questions.:)

If you start with 2" monos, you've got around 3 months in a tank that small. I am only talking from my own experience (two monos in a 36x12x27).

Granted your footprint is a bit bigger...

When peope tell you they will grow 1-2" a month don't think they are boasting. Just assume they will grow 2 inches a month (mine have) and be ready to move them. I bought mine and figured I'd have time to find them a bigger home. My tank is paid for, but since I'm getting it used, the people who currently have it haven't gotten their new tank setup yet so I am waiting on them. I am now in the process of getting my 300 rubbermade out of storage and ready in case these people take more than a cople months to get their ***** together.

They grow FAST when young!!!

and if you can't get wild peacocks in your area just get 4 or 5 babies now.

The only reason I say this is that they are not common in my area (Iowa) and after getting three, having one die, and waiting for my LFS to get more, my first batch could eat the new ones for dinner. So now wanting more I am faced with paying $50-$75 for medium size bass, paying to have them shipped also, or driving 4 hours to get them.

If you end up not liking them you can always give them away. ;)

good luck and keep us updated :)
