1. biggest tank possible!!! minimum of 125. best way is with a large stock tank with lots of surface area.
2. 10 or more piranha, smaller groups tend to be very very jumpy and never really settle down, larger schools are always better.
3. time-1 year or so
4. always feed healthy food!!!!! never feeder goldfish. main diet should be high quality cichlid pellets, mine love cichlid gold. 75% pellets, 15% frozen like krill, brine shrimp, or live blackworms!!!(which are great), 10% live, like cichlids(a natural food source) and trout(if you can get them). never orverfeed to the point where your piranhas stop eating!!
- feed alot 3 times a day, they eat tons but don't everstuff yor piranhas
5. piranhas grow rabidly!!! if you start with inchers expect them to be 6" at least by the six month mark.
6. after they're a few inches they will fight constantly, but don't worry they heal quickly. and any they kill they will eat.
fighting is a natural part of rbp's life so expect it and let it happen, it can be avoided by understocking but this leads to skittish nervous adults.
7. watch you rbps often as they grow and observe which ones pair off, usually the biggest male and female. as they pair they will widdle down leaving the strongest pairs and the few loner that are allowed to live. note: multiiple pairs require massive tanks. only one pair will coexist in anything under 250 or so.
8. rbps can breed around 6" or when their spots disappear.
9. condition your rbps to breed by raising temp from 78f-80f to 80f-82f, increase water changes to 50% every few days, and feed lots of good food(the best i've found is live black worms) along with half the diet still being high quality pellets,
main points for an optimal setup: 10 fish or more, biggest tank possible(or stock tank), feed alot of good food, condition with big often water changes and more good food.
piranha care: FILTRATION!!!!!!!!!!!!
