Good evening, all. I was directed to this site/forum from a posting in aquaria central, which I've been a member of for years but haven't visited much lately.

My name is Dobber, and I'm from Madison WI.

I was at a LFS today and saw, for the first time, freshwater stingrays in a smallish tank (guessing 19 gallon). I had 'heard' of rays being freshwater, and even possibly living in something like a plastic kiddie style pool, but had never seen anything like this. One was a freshwater atlantic stingray and the other was a motoro. Talk about bliss!

Whenever I go to the zoo or an aquarium (Shedd Aquarium in Chicago was on the docket with the kids just this past Monday), the rays are easily my favorite.

I had little idea I could feasibly ever own one, but there's hope. I'm here to do the due diligence of researching tank environs, food, life expectancy, and such and hope to become a very educated shopper, and assess whether its reality or best left to the zoo. I have to say, the FW Atlantic was very fun to watch in that tank, swimming freely and face to the glass.

Hello and welcome!
