Hi all,
Joined the forums after doing a search for a new cannister filter. My tetratec ex700 started to leak on monday so have had to keep it in a bucket. After a search i found out there is some kind of design fault that allows water into the upper motorhead causing leak from the holes where the clips are.

At the time there were good reviews but looks like these were from people who had recently bought them as they start to leak about 1 to 2 years later.

Well now i have ordered the classic ehiem 2217 plus. I was thinking about the pro 3 but there people have had some leak problems. At least the 2217 has a very long history of non-leak and is a simple design that works -simple=less things to go wrong.

Im awaiting arrival for it on sat as im on my own till xmas and so cant be home to get parcel. So i have the leaking tetratec sitting in a bucket lol.

I dont mind the extra time it will take to clean the new one (my tetra had trays) and actually i had to tip stuff out from the trays in a bucket to clean and then collect them up to place inthe trays. Difference here is that i will be tipping stuff in a bucket and placing into cannister directly.

Actually i think i will enjoy this filter cleaning more than the tetra as i still had to check the trays were sitting okay and the motor head was seated. The i had to check the hose adaptor fitting in okay.

Anyway the comments on the classic ehiem on the forum has helped sway me to this filter. It seems problems arise when gadgets and gizmos are added to the basic design to help make things easier and often it adds another thing that can go wrong.

I noticed another plus point is the see-thru casing- it will offer some kind of visual clue and how things are inside.

Okay think thats a lot for an intro!:grinno:

Welcome to MFK. Enjoy your new filter!
