I'm new here so excuse me if I'm in the wrong section.

I currently have a 29 biocube freshwater setup with some platys, tetras, danios and a gourami, elepahnt nose and knife fish and recently got an wild baby arowana. I know they get way too large for 29g but I am going to switch to saltwater soon and thought I could raise to arowana till he/she got larger and trade her in for something else. But now as I read more about them it probably wasnt the best idea.

Let me know your guys thoughts=)

No, that wasn't a good move. You could stunt the fish in that small of a tank.

Alright, without trying to come off as rude, i'll say, yes it probably wasn't the best idea to buy one to grow out, mainly because at a young age these fish they can put on size pretty quickly and unless you plan on upgrading your 29G reasonably soon, this fish will most likely end up getting stunted....

The next problem is getting rid of large fish isn't always the easiest thing to do, and plus with the amount you spend on feeding these fish you aren't really making too much profit at the end of the day...

So all up, i'd say try and trade the fish now for store credit or something before it gets too big for your tank...

Just my 0.2 cents...

Not to mention it will eat everything else that is in that tank.

:iagree:

My Aros got to 20-22" in a little over a year.

not rude at all, I was just needing some advise because of course pet stores just advise you to buy anything and everything. I will take back the arowana today. Thanks for all the info.

Baby aros have crazy growth rate. I heard they can get up to 2~3" per week
