Hello everyone,

With in the past couple of months I have been VERY interested in purchasing an Oscar(s). I have been taking to friends that have owned them and currently own them and I have been getting mixed reviews from them both.

I was searching the internet to find a community that could help me prepare and understand more in-depth on what I should do and what I will be in store for.

I hope to find this community very helpful and I look forward to posting and reading.

Thank you

Welcome

Oscars will get to be about 1 foot max length. I would suggest having a 75g or bigger if your thinking about getting one, and if you are thinking about getting more than one, I wouldn't get a tank no less than 100g. Oscars grow very fast and have lots of personality; they can even recognize their owners. I think you will enjoy them a lot. I am glad your researching/finding out more about them rather than going ahead and buying them without knowing much of anything about them. Many people buy fish and they don't even do research about them beforehand and then find out things like the fish gets way bigger than they'd imagined or were told. I would google oscar fish info as a start if I were you because there is a lot of information about them out there that people here might not cover. :)

Thank you for the useful information. I know that you said to google search information, and I will trust me on that. Do you think if I got a small (2-3 inch) Oscar and put it in a 55 gallon tank for about a year than got a bigger tank, that would be fine? Also I was doning research on tankmates and I would like to have a green terror with my Oscar. And again, they would both be in a 55 gallon tank for about a year then move to a much bigger tank.
