Well I've been checking out this page for a while, I finally got a camera yesterday. Sony DSC V-1. I havent had a whole lot of time to mess with it yet due to school but I have taken some pretty awful pictures of my fish so far :(. Does anybody have any experience with this camera in regards to shooting aquatic photos? I'll try to post a picture as soon as I take a decent one, It seems either I need a ton more light on my tank or I'm missing something because when I turn the flash off, my camera does not pick up a damn thing. It seems to me that I have "enough" light to get some sort of picture because i've seen people post pics with NO tank lighting that turned out better than I am getting :( anyway....It's a 55 gallon with a 40w 48" strip with a powerglow bulb. I suppose I should get just get more lighting? Thanks, Justin

hey justin

welcome to APF. How did you get here??

As far as lighting, more is better, but also what type it is matters. You need high wattage "daylight" type lighting, really nice white spectrum. Power compacts is the best way to do this, but they can run a bit of $$$.

I've got your camera's predecessor, the Sony S75, and if memory serves, many of the same functions are preserved. If your camera has a turn dial with a lil camera, the letters A S or M on it, I can help you even further because the layout is the same. I will check out some sights (dpreview) for likeness and get back to you. If it's true that they're alike, you'll be able to throw out some nice shots with that camera, as I think mine has put out a couple nice ones.

Thanks,
Tony

Hey thanks Tony, I think it does have the features you are talking about

Well it appears to be very, very similar to mine. Thats the good news, the bad news is the lens is a bit different, so aperture recommendations from me may be a bit off even though I'll try to factor in the difference for you.

My favorite tactic with this camera is to bracket in full manual mode, using paper towel or tissue paper on the flash. (is your falsh strong too?) With good lighting, you should be able to crank out f/2.8, 1/60ish shots out of your camera, which aint too shabby.

We'll get into it more as you post more pics for us to pick apart

hehe
