Hi Everybody,

Just wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone. Just bought a Nikon D50 along with a 50mm F/1.8D. I am new to the whole DSLR thing and I hope you all don't get tiered of my newbie questions. I am not having much luck when trying different setting other than AUTO mode and I didn't spend this much money for a point-n-shoot, so I hope you all can help me tune in my photo's.

Maybe you all can throw some setting at me so I have somewhere to start as I really don't have a clue.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to APF, Randy.
Starting is the hardest part. Are you using the aquarium lighting for your shots? Can you set the camera's controls? BTW you may be relieved to know that you don't have to understand the whole of the camera's manual to take decent photos ;)
I suggest you set aperture priority metering (probably labelled A on the dial). Then set the ISO sensitivity to 800 and the aperture to f/2.8 and see if you can get any recognisable photos. Don't expect miracles straight away, but once you begin to make progress you'll find it gets much easier. Please post some pictures here and we can give you some guidance.

Here are a couple shots using the settings that Alan suggested.

Hello and welcome!

Try to avoid the built in flash, as you have a lot of light, compare to what I have in my tanks. It will bring smoother lightning, relief...
Just try to get closer of the fish and not keep it in middle of the frame for a start.
